From the sketchbook
My first (only) art teacher, Watanabe-sensei, gave me lots of advice in Japanese, much of it beyond my comprehension, but one thing I remember he said is to make sure every sketch you do has some marks that are the darkest your medium allows. This I did on the lips of this sketch of model Caitlin Diamond.
Medium: H and 4B pencils on smooth paper.

最初で（唯一の）美術の先生、渡辺先生は、たくさんのアドバイスを日本語でくれました。その多くは私の理解を超えていましたが、覚えていることの一つは、描くスケッチごとに、使用する媒体が許す限り最も濃いマークを入れることです。このことを私は、モデルのケイトリン・ダイアモンドの唇のスケッチに実践しました。
