Sneak peek at newest additions to the August exhibition

Oops, I forgot to mention that the theme of my upcoming exhibition… Places & Faces… is combining landscapes (“Places”) with portraits (“Faces”). So, if you come along in August you’ll see every portrait paired with a landscape. The combination may be because of aesthetic reasons (using the same palette or style of painting) or thematic ones (both display similar emotions or have a shared history, for example). See if you can spot the connection, or invent your own :)

The example above is both — the portrait is of writer and teacher Baye McNeil, the landscape is done using the same palette (literally the oil paint left over from painting the portrait) and depicts Yokohama, Baye’s old stomping ground.

私の次回の個展のテーマをお伝えするのを忘れていました…「場所と顔」…8月中は風景画（「場所」）と肖像画（「顔」）の組み合わせです。来ていただければ、すべての肖像画が風景画と対になっているのを見ることができます。この組み合わせは、美的な理由（同じパレットや絵画のスタイルを使用）や、テーマ的な理由（似た感情を表現している、または共通の歴史を持っているなど）のためかもしれません。どんなつながりがあるのかを見つけてみてください。もしくは、自分自身でつながりを創り出してみてください。それは皆さんにお任せします :)

上記の例はその両方です。肖像画は作家で教師のBaye McNeilで、風景画は同じパレット（肖像画を描いたときに残った油絵の具を文字通り使用）で描かれており、Bayeの旧なじみの地、横浜を描いています。
